C4 is the largest type of the popular European sizes of envelope (both single colour and full colour with either window envelopes or plain (non-window) envelopes on offer) with a pocket flap (short edge) only. This is the equivalent size to putting a Letterhead, A4 size, or 323mm wide x 229mm deep or a full A4 brochure into an envelope without folding. It is normally used to send A4 size. It's also the ideal size for grander marketing material such as brochures, presentation folders, or when you don't want to fold a quote or tender within the UK or overseas.

We mainly use the shorter-life 'Self-Seal' type which are sealed by pressing together two flaps that are both pre-gummed. Bear in mind that over time (less than a year) they are prone to drying out in warmer office conditions, but are less expensive to produce and the majority of our clients prefer them due the advantage of ease of use, no manual licking involved (yuck! we all remember licking envelopes is like a bulldog chewing a wasp) and less office waste (those little white peel-off strips on a Peel & Seal envelope have to be dumped somewhere!) so they are normally used quite quickly for specific mail-outs or in a normal office environment. We would advise that the larger the envelope the more important the gsm paper weight becomes; and without that additional quality they could become floppy and tear more easily in transit through Royal Mail's sorting system. Production notes for our C4-size Printed Colour Envelope product range

Trade Printing UK traditionally work with pocket-style (top opening) flaps on our C4 product range. This type of product is usually printed in a portrait format. The cheapest way for you to do it is to print your return address etc. at the base (within 10mm) on the front side of the C4 envelope. That's where the Royal Mail will look for it nowadays anyway so no need to print on the reverse side any longer.

All custom-print C4 envelope descriptions are for guidance only as exact dimensions are subject to the usual tolerances that occur during the manufacturing process. In particular, flap shapes and sizes vary depending on the precise manufacturing machinery. Any custom-print envelope you order may be subject to minor design variances, however, these variances will neither affect the functionality nor the perception of quality of the custom-print, C4 colour print product.
