What is a Minor Electrical Installation Works Certificate?

Minor Electrical Installation Works Certificate (aka 'MEIWC') is a UK legal document used for additions and alterations to an electrical installation that don't extend to the supply of a new electrical circuit. e.g. 13-amp sockets, light switches added to, or relocated on an existing circuit.

Think of it as a green light for your electrical work. It confirms that minor electrical alterations, such as adding sockets or lights, were compliant and done safely whilst following British IET Wiring Regulations, under BS 7671:2008.

Personalise with your own details and company logo and we will print for you on Carbonless NCR.

Who can issue one?

Adding new electrical items like lights or appliances.

What are the benefits of an Minor Electrical Installation Works Certificate?

MEIWCs ensure safe and compliant electrical work.

They're mandatory for most minor electrical alterations.

Only registered Part P electricians can issue them.

 Homeowners and electricians have responsibilities.

Who uses these MEIWC forms?

Need one? It's the law! If you make changes to an existing circuit, like adding sockets or lights, an MEIWC carbonless form is mandatory under IET Wiring Regulations. This ensures safety and protects everyone involved.

Remember!

Homeowners: It's your responsibility to ensure certified work gets a certificate.

Electricians:  Provide the MEIWC certificate to the Homeowner and keep a carbonless copy for your records.

Still confused? Here's an example:

You install extra sockets in your new House Extension.

Adding to existing wiring requires an MEIWC.

Replacing a light fitting without wiring changes might not.
