WHAT ARE TIMESHEETS?
Time Sheets are a physical record of an employee's time spent at Work during a full working day or week, or in keeping track of a task's start and finish times.
They record the duration of a working day or a specific task and split into a table form, usually including breaks and possibly travel times too.
Timesheet Features include: usually being split into days during the working week, with Week Starting, Job Number and Reference, Location and Site, Start and Finish Times, Tea & Lunch Breaks, Total Hours plus Approval columns for HR depts.
They are perfect for staff who are paid weekly, rather than monthly salaries; plus are used especially by Recruitment agencies to record their deployed temporary staff to keep a note of their hours worked and expenses incurred.
Thus, there are two different types:
Daily Timesheet books or Weekly Timesheet pads, which are a much more efficient solution being much easier and quicker to use for most people who won't have to spend time, extra money, or effort on training employees in a new system where they could be focusing elsewhere.
They are a powerful administration tool when it comes to company management as they also assist managers in keeping track of tasks’ start and finish times, as well as staff time used . This is useful for senior managers who need to know which jobs take up the biggest proportion of a working day and which areas cause product and services to be delayed. Customised timesheets get these two jobs done, ensuring that both your wages and management processes run smoothly.
They allow business managers to organise better, delegating the correct tasks to the correct personnel within the company. They're also a great way to identify your employee's best capabilities to help optimise a company in the long run.
Using paper-based, carbonless timesheets doesn't mean that your company is lagging in the technology department as a good percentage of tech-forward and innovative companies deliberately choose to work with paper-based timesheets simply to avoid system compatibility issues, or dreaded downtime.
Look at the utter mayhem caused to Facebook’s business during its highly-embarrassing “outage” in October 2021 when Whatsapp, Pinterest and their parent company Facebook were off-line worldwide for 7 hours. Employees couldn’t even get access to rooms within buildings as they were locked out of important areas by key-fob door locks — all were taken offline in the cascading effect of the heavy reliance on technology for even the most basic tasks. The outage cost Facebook a lot of money as its share price plummeted by 5% due to the fiasco. It showed the world that the reliance on technology isn’t the be all and end all.
Using a carbonless paper-based duplicate NCR timesheet removes any need for IT technical assistance or reliance on a third party to maintain them.
In summary, time and people are a company's two most valuable resources and time tracking is ultra critical for anyone in business. Focused time management helps keep invoicing on track, allows better project management, and from an employee's point-of-view, their payroll processing. They're also instrumental in helping managers assess employees' skills in certain areas of monitoring efficient time utilisation.
