What is the difference between a Flyer and a Leaflet?
Flyers are typically printed on one side only and focus on a single, clear message — promoting a business or organisation, advertising a product or service, announcing a special offer, or launching something new. They are designed to be absorbed at a glance.
Leaflets are printed on both sides and may be folded to create multiple panels within the one sheet — allowing more information to be presented in a structured, easy-to-navigate format. A folded A4 leaflet, for example, becomes a compact six-panel piece ideal for menus, guides, or service overviews.
Both are cost-effective, high-impact print marketing tools. The right choice depends on how much you need to say — and how you want it delivered.

What is the difference between a Brochure and a Pamphlet?
Brochures are more elaborate than flyers or leaflets. They are typically multi-page, saddle-stitched or perfect-bound documents designed to provide a comprehensive overview of a business, product, or service — commonly used in showrooms, exhibitions, or as leave-behind sales collateral.
Pamphlets are similar to leaflets but are typically folded into a multi-page format, providing more detailed information about a topic, cause, or service. They are widely used by charities, churches, healthcare providers, and public bodies across the UK and Ireland.
If you need multi-page printed materials beyond a single folded sheet, our team can advise on the right format — contact us directly for a quote.

What Finishing Options does TradePrintingUK offer on Flyers & Leaflets?
We offer five finishing options — more than any other UK flyer printer — making TradePrintingUK the only UK print manufacturer to provide the full suite for flyers and leaflets:
- Sequential Numbering — unique serial number printed on every copy. Available on all Uncoated stocks (DL through A3). Ideal for event tickets, raffle tickets, and security documents.
- Perforation — a clean tear-off line across any size. Available on Uncoated stocks only (100gsm, 120gsm, 170gsm White Uncoated). Popular for reply slips, vouchers, and entry forms.
- Creasing — a precision score line that allows heavier card stocks to fold cleanly without cracking. Available on 300gsm, 350gsm, and 400gsm on A5, A4, and A3.
- Folding — Half-Fold or Roll Fold. Available on 100gsm Bond, 120gsm Bond, and 170gsm Artpaper, in A5, A4, and A3 sizes.
- Personalisation (VDP) — variable data printing with unique names, addresses, or QR codes on every sheet. Available on all 7 paper stocks across all 5 sizes.
Sequential Numbering and Perforation are exclusive to TradePrintingUK — not available from standard online print companies.
What paper types do you offer for leaflet and flyer printing?
We stock seven paper weights and finishes, covering everything from lightweight promotional handouts to prestige artboard. All are available across all five sizes (DL, A6, A5, A4, A3):
- 100gsm Bond Uncoated — thin, flexible, ideal for high-volume door drops, exhibition inserts, and notepad sheets. Laser-printable.
- 120gsm Bond Uncoated — bright white, crisp, premium letterhead quality. The go-to stock for letterheads, compliment slips, and official correspondence flyers.
- 170gsm White Uncoated — substantial light card with a matte, writable surface. The thickest stock for perforation. Ideal for event tickets and reply forms.
- 170gsm Silk Art Paper — silky smooth, vivid colour reproduction. Supports all five finishing options including Folding. Perfect for restaurant menus, event programmes, and high-end promotional campaigns.
- 300gsm Uncoated Card — stiff, substantial, writable matte card. Ideal for loyalty cards, vouchers, and placemats.
- 350gsm Silk Artboard — luxuriously rigid, premium Silk finish. Commands attention in any setting — ideal for invitations, premium promotional cards, and prestige stationery.
- 400gsm Silk Premium Artboard — business-card thickness. Maximum rigidity, unmissable in any hand. Ideal for prestige promotional cards and collector pieces.
Paper Weight Conversion Tool — gsm to lb Calculator
Convert between gsm (grams per square metre — the UK and European standard) and lb (pounds — used in the USA and sometimes in older UK trade references) using TradePrintingUK's Calculator Tool ©. Both units measure paper density, not physical weight of a sheet.
How do I order flyers or leaflets online from TradePrintingUK?
Ordering is straightforward and takes just a few minutes. Here is the process:
- Step 1 — Choose your size: DL, A6, A5, A4, or A3. Not sure? DL fits standard envelopes; A5 is the most popular all-round size for promotions.
- Step 2 — Choose your paper: Select from our seven stocks. The calculator above can help if you are comparing to a weight you know in lb.
- Step 3 — Choose quantity: Starting from 25 copies right up to 10,000+. Pricing is shown live as you configure.
- Step 4 — Select your finishing: Add Numbering, Perforation, Creasing, Folding, or Personalisation from the drop-down menus at product level.
- Step 5 — Upload your artwork: Supply a print-ready PDF at 350dpi CMYK with 3mm bleed on all sides. Use our Artwork Guide if you need help setting up your file.
- Step 6 — Choose turnaround and go: Standard and Express options are shown at checkout. We dispatch via DPD with FREE 2-day tracked delivery to mainland UK.
What is the minimum order quantity for flyer printing?
Our minimum order quantity is 25 copies — making us ideal for short-run, targeted campaigns where you do not want to over-print. There is no upper limit on standard runs.
Sequential Numbering is available up to a maximum of 10,000 copies per run. Personalisation (VDP) quantities are discussed at order stage depending on data volume.
Can I have Sequential Numbering on my flyers or leaflets?
Yes. Sequential Numbering is available on all Uncoated paper and card stocks (100gsm, 120gsm, 170gsm White Uncoated, and 300gsm Uncoated) up to a maximum of 10,000 copies. It is not available on Silk artpaper or artboard stocks.
Numbers are typically formatted as 5 digits (up to 7 digits max.), starting at 00001 — or you can start from any number you like, e.g. 01001–01500. The default is 14pt Arial, black ink. We can alter the size, font, and colour (e.g. 10pt in red) on request as it is digitally printed.
Important: Do not include the number position on your PDF artwork — leave a blank space of at least 12mm tall × 30mm wide and describe its location in the order notes box. If numbering is included in your artwork file, it will print as part of the fixed design on every copy.
Sequential numbering is widely used for raffle tickets, event entry passes, parking permits, security documents, and promotional vouchers with unique codes.
Can I have my flyers or leaflets Folded?
Yes. Folding is available on 100gsm Bond, 120gsm Bond, and 170gsm Artpaper, in A5, A4, and A3 sizes. We offer two fold types:
- Half-Fold — available on A5, A4, and A3. Folds the sheet cleanly in half, creating a simple 4-panel leaflet or brochure format.
- Roll Fold — available on A4 only. Divides the sheet into three panels that fold neatly on top of each other — ideal for menus, price lists, service guides, and estate agent property details.
All folded leaflets are supplied ready to use, flat-packed, and fully finished. For heavier card stocks (300gsm+), select the Creasing option instead, which scores the sheet cleanly before folding by hand.

Who uses Flyers and Leaflets in the UK and Ireland?
Printed flyers and leaflets remain one of the most cost-efficient marketing channels available to UK and Irish businesses — particularly when physical presence matters. Our customers include:
- Restaurants, cafés & takeaways — folded A4 menus, promotional DL handouts for delivery campaigns, and seasonal offer flyers.
- Events, festivals & venues — numbered ticket flyers, event programme inserts, and promotional A5 handouts for footfall.
- Tradespeople & local services — door-drop A5 and DL flyers for plumbers, electricians, landscapers, and cleaning companies targeting local postcodes.
- Estate agents — A4 Roll Fold property details, open-day handouts, and area guides.
- Retail & e-commerce — promotional inserts packed with orders, flash-sale announcement flyers, and loyalty card scheme materials.
- Healthcare & wellbeing — patient information leaflets, appointment reminder cards, and clinic service guides on writable uncoated stocks.
- Print brokers & design agencies — blind-shipped, white-label production for their own clients across the UK, Ireland, and Europe. Learn about our trade service.

What are Leaflets and Flyers used for?
Beyond traditional advertising, flyers and leaflets are used across a wide range of commercial and community purposes in the UK and Ireland:
- Direct mail campaigns: Mailed directly to households or business addresses. Lightweight Uncoated stocks keep postage costs down — DL size fits Royal Mail standard letter format.
- In-store and reception displays: A5 and DL leaflets in counter-top acrylic holders are a standard fixture in salons, gyms, waiting rooms, and tourist information centres.
- Events and trade shows: High-volume A5 or A4 handouts at stands, exhibitions, and networking events. Sequential numbering makes them double as entry tickets.
- Product launches and announcements: Folded A4 leaflets work well as structured launch pieces — inside your packaging, with an online order, or as a standalone mailer.
- Church, community & charity use: Programme inserts, fundraiser flyers, and notice sheets — see our specific church envelope printing range.
- Tourism & hospitality: Stacked in hotels, visitor centres, and transport hubs — A5 landscape is particularly popular for attractions and experience providers.
- Vouchers and promotional offers: Perforated flyers with a tear-off redemption stub are a compelling and trackable promotional format.
Where is the best place to hand out a flyer or leaflet in the UK?
Distribution strategy is as important as the print quality. The most effective locations for UK and Irish businesses include:
- Letterbox door-drops: Highly targeted by postcode — cost-effective for local tradespeople, takeaways, and estate agents. Royal Mail's Partially Addressed or Door to Door service can be combined with your own leaflet drop.
- Tourist and visitor locations: Hotels, B&Bs, visitor centres, and National Trust properties are receptive to leaflet racks — particularly relevant for tourism businesses in Scotland, Wales, Ireland, and English coastal towns.
- High-footfall venues: Gyms, sports centres, libraries, and community halls accept leaflets for local businesses and events.
- Events and markets: A4 and A5 flyers handed out at farmers markets, craft fairs, car boot sales, and trade fairs have one of the highest engagement rates of any format.
- Packed inside orders: Including a promotional flyer inside your e-commerce packages is a zero-additional-postage marketing touchpoint with a captive audience.

- Mainland GB: Free DPD 2-day tracked. Express available.
- Northern Ireland & Republic of Ireland: Delivery available — a small surcharge applies. 1 × 30kg box limit per standard delivery rate.
- Scottish Highlands & Islands: Small surcharge applies.

Do you deliver flyer printing to Ireland?
Yes — we deliver to both Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. TradePrintingUK has a long-established customer base across Ireland, and our pricing is transparent with any applicable delivery surcharge shown at checkout before you commit.
Do UK and Irish charities still use flyer printing?
Absolutely. Registered charities across the UK and Ireland continue to rely heavily on printed flyers and leaflets for fundraising, awareness campaigns, and event promotion — and for good reason. Print has a physical permanence that digital channels cannot replicate: a well-designed leaflet left in a church hall, community centre, or charity shop stays there, working passively, for weeks.
Common charity uses include:
- Raffle and tombola tickets — our Sequential Numbering is ideal for numbered raffle tickets, providing an affordable, professionally printed alternative to generic tear-off books.
- Fundraising event flyers — A5 is the standard handout format for charity events, coffee mornings, sponsored walks, and awareness days.
- Gift Aid and donation forms — 120gsm and 170gsm Uncoated stocks are ideal for writable forms with a perforated return slip.
- Church notices and service sheets — see our dedicated church envelope printing range for orders tailored to parish and congregation needs.
- Cross-promotion with other charities: Leaflet swaps and rack-share arrangements between local charities are a zero-cost distribution method that maximises reach.
Our short print runs starting from 25 copies make it easy for small charities and community groups to order exactly what they need without committing to large quantities they may not use.

Are flyers still worth it for small businesses and start-ups?
Yes — and they are particularly effective for new businesses building a local customer base. A well-targeted door-drop of 500–1,000 flyers in your immediate trading area can generate a response rate of 1–5%, which compares very favourably with email or paid social at comparable spend levels.
Key advantages for SMEs and start-ups:
- Low minimum quantities — start from 25 copies. Test a design, an offer, or a target area before committing to a large run.
- Tangible and trusted — physical print carries a credibility that display ads cannot. Customers who receive a quality printed piece perceive higher brand value.
- No algorithm dependency — unlike social media or paid search, a letterbox drop is not subject to platform changes, ad auction costs, or content moderation.
- Measurable — include a unique discount code, QR code, or phone number to track response rates directly from your print campaign.
- Fast turnaround — Express options mean you can have print in hand within days of placing your order.
