What is the benefit of an Incident Report?
Analysis of workplace incident reports can help companies to implement necessary changes, improvements, plus any corrective procedures or actions to prevent future incidents.
An incident Report will help:
✓Improve existing health & safety practices
✓Prevent further or more serious incidents
✓Protect the company from future financial loss or reputational damage
✓Give other company employees the sense that the company cares
Why do you need an Incident Report?
An Incident Report can indicate that there were lapses in a company's safety protocols, which is why prompt, detailed reporting and documenting of a workplace incident is very important to identify any risks, failures and hazards that led to the incident.
What features does an INCIDENT REPORT ACCIDENT INJURY Form have?
Features contained within an Incident Report Accident Injury form are:
✓Name of person who had the accident or injury
✓Name of person filling in the form
✓Details about the accident itself
✓Any medical treatment given or sought
✓Next of kin of accident or injury victim
✓Who informed the Next of kin
✓Signatures
✓Employee use areas
✓Data Protection for GDPR within the UK
In addition to any internal Incident Report within the workplace, you may also need to fill in a RIDDOR form via the UK Government's HSE website, if:
✓Employee incident results in death
✓Specific major injuries
✓Injuries that resulted in more than one full week of absence from work for an employee
✓Injuries that resulted in members of the public being taken directly to a hospital for treatment
What should you do with an Accident Injury Incident Report?
In the UK, Incident Reports should be completed following an incident or injury. The report might only be used or circulated within the company, but if severe enough, it will need to be sent to the HSE (Health & Safety Executive) where online RIDDOR forms may need to be filled in, company insurers or underwriters, industry' regulatory bodies, or even the Police if very serious.
RIDDOR covers regulations that govern reporting requirements within the UK via the HSE's “Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations 2013” online forms.
RIDDOR are actually a separate group of HSE forms, in addition to a company's own internal Incident Reports.
Workplace incidents that involve employee or manual worker' safety should be recorded with an Incident Report, no matter how insignificant it may seem.
A management investigation of what happened should be undertaken after the incident occurs and after any injured persons have sought medical help or advice.
The Incident Report should provide a full account of what occurred and may be used as evidence in later legal actions, training or for HR dept.
What is the difference between an Incident Report and an Accident Report?
The only real difference between an Incident Report and an Accident Report is the assumption of fault; with the assumption that an "accident" is no one's fault, but an "incident" may potentially be the fault of a person, or persons.
Incident Reports and Accident Reports are interchangeable because an incident may well be an accident, and an accident is a form of incident.
