Excavation Permit to Work Forms printed from £69 with FREE DELIVERY**
An Excavation Permit to Work is a mandatory site-safety document used to strictly control digging, trenching, and groundworks where buried utility hazards exist. Printed as a multi-part carbonless NCR form, it creates an instant duplicate audit trail to verify that all known obstructions—including electrical cables, gas pipelines, and water mains—have been formally identified before ground is broken.
To satisfy HSE compliance under HSG47 guidance, the printed template enforces a rigid six-stage sequence: Job Details, Known Obstructions, Safety Precautions, Authorisation, Hand Back, and Cancellation. By explicitly recording required safety measures like hand-digging only and non-sparking tools, these retained physical records legally verify that contractors have implemented safe systems of work to prevent fatal utility strikes.
BENEFITS of Excavation Permit to Work forms:
Accessibility: You can use them anywhere, anytime — no need for an internet connection or electronic gadgets. Just grab a pen!
Tangibility: Carbonless Excavation Permit to Work ('EPTW') provide a physical copy that you can hold, file, and review without relying on electronic gadgets or power sources.
Legal and Financial Compliance: In some Construction industries and regions, physical Excavation 'EPTW' are still necessary for legal and administrative auditing purposes. Very popular in Dubai and the UAE currently! We will ship there.
Reliability: These are immune to digital errors, system crashes, or cybersecurity threats. You can count on their accuracy.
Simplicity: NCR books and pads don’t require technical expertise or training, making them accessible to users of all levels.

What does an Excavation Permit To Work Form look like?

With these hazard considerations, the opportunity for accidents is further reduced. The triplicate permit will help to protect the health & safety of your construction and excavation employees, plus any sub-contractors.
A competent person who fully understands the dangers and necessary precautions should inspect the excavation supports, and sloping or shoring battering at the start of each shift. No digging should take place until the area is safe.
Excavations should also be inspected after any event that may have affected their strength or stability, or after a fall of rock or earth.
There is quite a good YouTube video showing how to fill in an Excavation Permit to Work.
These Excavation-related Permit to Work forms follow the British Government's Health & Safety Executive (HSE) legal guidance from series code HSG250
Who uses an Excavation Permit to Work form on site?
During the work day, all three copies of the NCR form are split between:
✓ Issuer helping to identify all excavation work taking place on site and proving useful to other contractors arriving, to determine potential work conflicts.
✓ Control Room if that's in a different location to the Issuer's office.
✓ Contractor to display in the area of the construction site they're working on.
At the end of a work day, all three copies are returned to the Issuer's office for cancellation.
What should be in a hand-written Excavation PTW report?
A complete record of the inspections would be required and any faults found corrected immediately and contain the following information:
✓ Job Details
✓ Permit Date Required
✓ Required Start & planned Finish Times
✓ Job Location or area which the Excavation Permit applies
✓ Any remedial work required to make the area safe
✓ List other specialist Permits
✓ Known Obstructions including Electrical, Water, Gas, Phone & Broadband, Oil Pipelines
✓ Safety Precautions required including hand-digging, non-sparking tools
✓ Authorisation & Acceptance signatures and dates
✓ Form hand back clearance Signature of Authorised person
✓ Cancellation Signature of Authorised person
✓ Details of any matter identified giving rise to a risk to health &Amp; safety of any person on site
✓ Details of any action taken as a result of any matter identified
✓ Details of any further action considered necessary
