There are lots of types of custom printed envelope types available (both single colour and full colour with either window envelopes or plain (non-window) envelopes on offer), but we've standardised on printing the main European and UK envelope supplier sizes of DL, C5 and C4, and Trade Printing UK (TPUK) consider ourselves to be a one of the leading cheap envelope printers and trade suppliers of these pre-paid envelope products in the country.
We always use a premium prepaid envelope brand which gives a high-white, high-quality finish, and there are both window and plain (non-window) envelope variants available. We mainly use the shorter-life 'Self-Seal' type which are sealed by pressing together two flaps that are both pre-gummed. Bear in mind that over time (less than a year) they are prone to drying out in warmer office conditions, but are less expensive to produce and the majority of our clients prefer them due the advantage of less waste (those little white peel-off strips on Peel & Seal envelopes have to be dumped somewhere!) and they are normally used quite quickly for specific mail-outs or in a normal office environment. Our advice: order less at a time!
Trade Printing UK's custom over-printed envelope range is usually between 90gsm to 100gsm (gsm = paper weight of grams per square metre) although our 100gsm variant is our regular one. We would advise that the larger the printed envelope the more important the gsm paper weight becomes; and without that additional quality they could become floppy and tear more easily in transit.

Custom-Printed Colour Envelope Flaps
All custom-printed envelope descriptions are for guidance only as exact dimensions are subject to the usual tolerances that occur during the manufacturing process. In particular, flap shapes and sizes vary depending on the precise manufacturing machinery. Any custom printed envelope you order may be subject to minor design variances, however, these variances will neither affect the functionality nor the perception of quality of the custom printed colour envelopes.
Custom-Printed Colour Envelope Paper gsm weights
Self-Seal Printed Envelopes are usually produced in 90gsm - 100gsm. Peal & Seal Printed Colour Envelopes are always produced in at least 100gsm paper weights and sometimes 120gsm were rarely available
We print DL, C5 & C4 size Printed Envelopes in 1 & 2 Spot Colours or Full Colour CMYK. Different branded envelope styles are available on special request.

Any design tips that apply to creating professional artwork for Printed Envelopes?
Be careful with placement of logos and text etc., especially so it doesn't impose in the Royal Mail's envelope safe zone area along the top inch or so. Also be careful with areas of solid colour on the front side of where the folded flaps will be on the back of any envelope, as due to the pressure of the printing press can lead to an ugly impression line being imprinted on the other side of the flap edges.
What Bleed do you use on litho printed envelopes?
Bleed-off is unavailable on any pre-made, custom pre-printed envelope from our range. 8mm space (and preferably all round) from at least one edge required for press grip.
I want to have a Silver or Gold-type colour. Do TradePrintingUK.com use those inks?
We don't print with either Pantone 877 Silver or Pantone 871 Gold metallic inks. But there are workarounds to achieve something similar. There'll be no metallic fleck though.
